TAME took a moment to chat with Pet Supplies Plus owners, John & Jeanne Sullivan, to learn more about how they keep their pet loving clients happy.

Q Type
of products and/or services you offer:
A Food and treats from grocery to natural brands for dogs, cats,
small animals and fish. We also carry most pet supplies and accessories for
pets. Live small animal and fish.
Q What
prompted you to start your business?
A We lived in Long Island, NY. We wanted to move back to Jeanne's
hometown, St. Louis. She worked as
a Store Manager at a Pet Supplies Plus on Long Island so we invested with her
brother to purchase a franchise, the first and only one in Missouri.
Q What
is your educational/career background?
A Both of us have diverse retail backgrounds, Jeanne in store management
(Gap, Pier One, Vitamin Shoppe), John in corporate (Brooks Brothers and
Lacoste).
Q Tell
us about the staff at your company?
A They are loyal, polite and well educated in all pet products. They
give customers the extra time to ensure customers have a happy visit.
Q What
makes your business different from others?
A Our superior customer Service sets us apart from the
competition. That is the "plus" in Pet Supplies Plus. Also, our product line of
extensive natural foods and treats is the largest in the area. Our prices are
also very competitive to any of the national chains.
Q Who
is your target customer/client base?
A Our target customers are pet owners who take extra care of their
pet and treat it like family.
Q How
has your business changed over the past year?
A Our preferred pet club has grown immensely and given the great
incentives drives our business. We are utilizing e-mail blasts more and find it
an effective way to communicate with our customers.
Q What
do you see for the future of your business?
A We will continue to use our customer loyalty program as a
customer base. We will continue to search for the best pet products for the
health of pets.
Q Any
coupons or special promotions going on?
A Every Wednesday is Senior Citizen Day when customers 60 and over
receive 10% off their entire purchase. "Henrietta", our 3 foot rubber chicken mascot, is hidden
somewhere in the store. If you find her you will get 10% off you purchase.

Q What is the most unusual request of question you've had?
A A customer came in and wanted to purchase 300 meat steak toys for a Lady Gaga costume for Halloween!
Q What is the funniest thing that ever happened on the job?
A Some of the most amusing moments we enjoy are watching children (and adults) search high and low in our store for our mascot, "Henrietta". The kids are cute and it is hilarious to see the faces of adults when they find this 3 foot chicken they previously doubted was hidden.
Q What is the best part of your job?
A To help customers with animals that has problems and finding a solution rather than just treat the symptoms.
Q What makes your day?
A When a customer returns with happy news that we helped them with a problem and their pet is doing great.
Q How do you spend your time when you are not working?
A Hanging out together with our Papillion Buddy, gardening, reading and playing video games!
